Walkthrough up!

If you get stuck on what to do next on the quests or what’s left, you can refer to here.

It’s the walkthrough, written by IMAAK. Wonderful job, I editted it slightly to add some info or if there were any errors in there, but otherwise IMAAK did the work on this so I hope you find it useful! I was amused reading through it too.

Paradise Blue complete

Paradise Blue

Paradise Blue is finally complete! Download it from the link below. Let me know if there are any bugs. There may be some inconveniences because of the limits of RPG Maker, and some which would take far too long to fix, but I hope you enjoy it!
About the game
You can change your class once you beat the 1st boss. Before then, you can choose which starting class you want your characters to be, out of 6 of them (Fighter, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, Thief, Monk). You gain ABP after a battle, so once you get enough ABP, the character can learn an ability from their class.

There are 40 quests in the game.

You can hire people in the towns to help you in battle. Some may use abilities like boosting your magic power, walking speed, letting you attack first, and more.

Final quests

I didn’t have much time recently to work on stuff, but I did get around to making the last quests. I’m on the last one, all I need to do is add an ending and it’s over. Then off to quality control once I make a new song and battle background that I need. Actually I’m thinking of fixing up the quest log as well, but if not then it’ll go to testing after the song, battle bg, and ending are set. The deadline is the 29th, and it’s the 26th already, so I’m still in time.

Dialogue requires effort

It does, and it’s not something I’m really good at. But I’ll see, when I get around to the beta-testing stage, I’ll have someone check the story and the dialogue to see what I can do to improve it a bit or at least what to keep in mind for next game.

Anyway, I’m down to the last 3 quests that I have to make. I’m currently working on one of them, that should be done by tomorrow. I have some graphics to do as well, such as a Summon and a Battle BG but that I’ll take care of tomorrow as well.

I saw some of my old Paradise Blue enemy sprites (from a different older backup of PB) and it’s a huge difference. I’ve improved a lot since then. So I decided to work on them a little bit so I can use those as enemies for this dungeon.

I really worry that there might be too much talking in the cutscenes and stuff. I know you can skip it, but I figure most people would at least read it the first time. I don’t know if I can reduce much of it either, so I’ll see what other people have to say about it.

I have exactly one week left for the deadline.

9 day countdown

The deadline is on the 29th. At the pace I’m going, I might make it with time to spare. I’ll see, as long as nothing surprising pops up, which is bound to happen. So I’d at least rather take on 2 or more quests a day, although even 1 quest a day should be fine now.

I did a few more quests, so that is just about it for the side quests and that leaves 5 main quests.

But before I do, here’s the quests I did today:

-Rescue a researcher at the cave:  This is nice and simple. You get the quest at Seaside from a professor, and you go over to the caves to find where the researcher is, and fight the boss while you’re there. This lets you buy high level scrolls from the professors at the Marsall university where the researcher is from.

-The thief in Pertida: There’s a detective looking for clues on who stole a valuable item from one of the shops. You have to try to find out where the thief is hiding. I think I’ll go make this quest a little less obvious to solve, but basically it’s all set.

-The Ancanger in Marsall: There’s a large house in Marsall, where a wealthy man has placed the Ancanger (Mech) that he found. But the house is haunted. I’m not quite done with this one (this is the one I mentioned earlier), as I didn’t get to do the idea that I just came up with. Basically, the lights will go on and off periodically. You should run to a lighted area before the lights turn off, high level undead come out when it’s dark.

One of the main quests of the 5 that are left is basically just a long cutscene so I just have to plan out their dialogue and then write it out. I want the villain to have a short scene in here too.

I got around to making that battle background that I said I would in the last post.

But yeah, that’s all for today, hopefully more updates for tomorrow!

Rawr deadlines

OK, so I calculated that the deadline for this project (self imposed) is about 12 days. Probably 11 by now. So, I had 12 quests to do which meant 1 quest per day to meet the deadline, and that’s not accounting for the song I have to compose, making a new quest log which sorts (I still don’t know if I’ll get to this but I want to), and bug testing.

Luckily I had some time today so I went and finished 3 of them. So now the count is at 9. Hopefully I’ll have even more free time another day (Sunday perhaps?) so I can get more done. If I can get this done early that’d be even better.

31 / 40 quests complete.

Actually, I’m not EXACTLY done with one of the 3 quests, I just need to make a battle background for that area. But that’s not a major problem so I may have that done tomorrow.

I’m also thinking of setting up a character gallery, but I want to draw out the other story characters before I do that. I have a bunch of Amelia pics but not many for the rest of the characters.

Quest tackling

OK, trying to finish these quests so I can get it done soon. I have set an arbitrary deadline of 2 weeks to finish. I’m going to outright say that it’s impossible for the game to be released then, but if I’m REALLY lucky I can have it set for beta testing, or at least have a good amount of the game done.

Right now I set a quest that relies a bit on stealth. You get 2 traps (you can pick them up too if a guard hasn’t set it off), and have to avoid a few guards to get to your destination. Took me a night to get the traps working right, and the guard sight. I have the sight range done for 2 guards, need a few more and then to set the consequences if a guard catches you. Then to finish the quest.

So I lied

I did nerf the weapon. Apparently, when testing, I noticed something odd. The Sun Sword, having a lower attack power, was doing more damage to neutral enemies than the Ultimate weapon was doing. I thought it was only because the previous enemy was an undead (and yes, it did do extra damage because of it). But it was doing almost 2x-3x the damage of the strongest weapon, and it wasn’t supposed to. So, I had to kill the attributes for elementals, so that way the weapons could be balanced again. I replaced them with other effects now. So some can attack twice but has a lower hit rate, some raise your mind, some do status effect damage, the Sun sword now does Mind Break.

I stuffed some treasures in the Forest area now, so you can go raiding them there.

Official quest countdown

So, I have a list of quests I need to do until I finish the game, and I’m sticking with it.

Right now, I added about 3 quests in the game, maybe more since the last update.  So, that means I have 12 quests in total (main and side quests) to add. It may seem like a bigger number than I might have posted in earlier posts, but whatever. This is the official list and not some guesswork at 3 in the morning. When they are added, the game will be up for testing, and then when it’s good enough, I’ll release it. I don’t have a time frame for this but hopefully should be soon enough.

I’ve worked on some NPC quests that I’ve been given. I still have to add one NPC character, but that’ll be quick. Otherwise, I’ve finally gone around and did stuff with some of the NPCs that haven’t had anything to do. There are a few more but I think it’s like 2 or so, and they don’t have quests associated with them so it’s just thinking of dialogue for them.

Anyway, for something amusing (to me). Managed to hit a critical on an undead creature:

The green numbers are HP Regeneration, I had a spell cast for that. So yeah, I had the Sun Sword equipped, and that’s what happened after a critical. Of course I had to set it up just right, as you can see PowerUp was one of the things used. You’re not going to be seeing these damage numbers in game, or you may but it’d be rare. So no, I’m not nerfing it. I believe at end game you’ll be doing 700-1400 damage generally.

Sketch pad

Just adding a few simple sidequests around. I finally found the text document that listed all the quests in the game. There’s 45 total, I may chop down a few but otherwise that’ll generally be the amount.

A simple thing, but I’ve been fixing enemy names that have been chopped off because of too much letters. Since the enemies show their level before their name, some names end up being too long. Like L16 ShadeSPIRIT which got renamed to L16 DoomSPIRIT. That’s a hunt creature for a quest. It tends to cast multi-target instant death spells so it could be nasty. The sketch pad (shown on this title) is another quest, although a very simple one.

I completely forget if I mentioned this, but ABP requirements for all classes (except one) have been lowered, usually significantly. I probably mentioned this though.

I have a few new Amelia pictures, I’ll post up one which is also in Division Heavens blog.
